Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I’m passionate about IFS as a treatment model for my clients, and have been focusing on this method since 2020. This model connects clients with their inner essence or “Self,” cuts through mental noise, and gets to the heart of what is causing them to feel overwhelmed, lost, and at the mercy of their emotions.
IFS can be used to address most issues, including:
- Parenting issues
- Cultural trauma
- Addiction
- Anxiety
- Attachment injuries
- Wellbeing
- Disordered eating
- PTSD
What Does an IFS Session Look Like?
An IFS session often starts with a short check-in to help you settle your mind and focus on how you’re feeling. Then I will guide you to notice the different “parts” within you. These parts might be emotions, attitudes, or ways you react. Instead of ignoring or fighting these parts, IFS invites you to get to know them and understand why they act the way they do. You’ll be encouraged to talk about what these parts want, what they fear, and how they try to help you. The process moves at your pace, and it’s always your choice how much you share.
How Long Does IFS Take?
IFS is different for everyone. Some people discover helpful changes in a handful of sessions, while others may want to keep working over months. The time frame really depends on what you want to work on and how complex your feelings or experiences are. There is no strict schedule. We'll decide together how often to meet and for how long. Some people choose to keep coming once in a while, even after reaching their main goals, just to keep building self-awareness and balance. The most important thing is that IFS is about your needs and feeling safe as you learn about your inner world.
